Spearheaded by the school principal, Dr. Mark Anthony F. Familaran, together with the officers of the School Parents Teachers Association (SPTA), with the parents and learners, the covered court of Rafael Palma Elementary School was filled with glee and laughter as the community honored the teachers in celebrating the World Teacher’s Day on October 4, 2023.
The morning of the celebration started with a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Archie Perez of San Isidro Parish. In his homily, Fr. Archie said that teaching or being a teacher is God’s given gift and a will of God. He added that teachers are blessed for given such. He further reiterated that only teachers have the distinct charism to be with the children to teach, hone and mold them in school. He ended his homily with a quote: “The challenge of the gospel is to follow Christ unconditionally and unreservedly, for Jesus does not accept being second in our lives”. After the mass, the learners returned to the classroom for a shortened classes.
At around 10:00 AM, the second part of the day-long celebration began. After the preliminaries, Each grade level starting from the Kinder to Grade Six performed dances, songs, chorale speaking—all dedicated to the teachers. The SELG and SPTA also had their dances. For each performance, the delighted teachers were bestowed with tokens and gifts. In the afternoon, the celebration continued with parlor games initiated by the SPTA. The teachers together with Sir Mark had the best “fun time”.
A sumptuous food completed the day of fun, laughter and being grateful of the accolade given to the teachers on this special day. A day which we teachers can definitely call as “OURS”. And for that, we say: Thank you, our heart is full.
